This past June, the Bodega profiled emcee Eyezon Soweto and reviewed his latest free online mixtape, Machine Gun Pop. With a mix an of honest, no B.S., autobiographical rhyme style, inspired African rhythms and a sprinkle of up-tempo Cali production, Eyezon presented a piece of music that was both refreshing and reminiscent of the boom bap music of years’ past. Since that time, he has began to build on an already loyal support base that is strong enough to have garnered him a spot at this years’ A3C Hip Hop Festival down in Atlanta, along side present day power players, industry veterans and on-the-verge emcees including Skyzoo, Big Daddy Kane, Random Axe, M.O.P., Freeway, Murs, Big K.R.I.T., Dead Prez, Freddie Gibbs, Corey Gunz, Jean Grae and a ton of other notable titles in the ever-changing Hip Hop music landscape.

But Eyezon is not just content with or focusing on being another up and comer in a sea of talent as wide as all outside. He’s officially carving his own sonically charged path by working with his team and his base of supporters to build, shape and promote a newly-minted genre of music the many refer to as “Afri-Cali”, a term he came up with due to being a product of Northern California by way of his native South Africa. Eyezon is primed to make his mark on the music world not simply as an artist, but as a creator and an innovator, fusing elements of music to create his own brand of unmistakable, motherland inspired music.
