The Tom Finch Group plays a hip and unique blend of styles best described as but not limited to World-Rock. Featuring Tom Finch, (J.J.) Jason Jones, Rob Fordyce, Bill O’Callaghan, Mika Scott and Peter Penhallow, the group offers original compositions with infectious melodies, hypnotic grooves, inspiring lyrics, and fiery solos. The band is extremely versatile and it’s many flavors appeal to most audiences while the band member’s virtuosity and enthusiasm make each performance fresh and exciting. The Tom Finch group has played festivals, clubs, parties, and is currently seeking new performance opportunities.
Tom Finch – A California native and multi-insrumentalist for over twenty years, Tom emphasizes electric guitar. Influenced by rock, funk, blues, and jazz, his playing, performing, and composing continue to grow with a creative and energetic force. A Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame inductee, Tom has toured throughout the U.S., Europe, Japan, and Canada and is featured on many albums with groups such as Big Brother & the Holding Co., Eyes Open, and Jazz Iguanas. Tom has played with such greats as Joan Baez, Randy Vincent, Mel Graves, Steve Smith, Kai Eckhardt, and Yiri Svaboda. His formal training includes over ten years of study in music theory, performance, and education at Mills College, Sonoma State University, and College of Marin and he has taught music privately as well as in school programs two decades.
Rob Fordyce – is a bass player who grew up in the multi dimensional musical community of the Bay Area. He has played with Lenny Williams from Tower of Power, John Hartman of the Doobie Brothers, and Mark Robertson of Cairo. Rob loves to play for live audiences with the Tom Finch Group, he brings a fun, positive and creative energy through his playing and singing. “I love to build a groove and watch the room move,” he says. He plays 6-string electric, fretless and electric stand up bass.
Jason Jones a.k.a. JJ – has been performing, touring and playing professionally nearly 2 decades. He has produced albums, engineered for Lucas film Ltd., and works with many bands on performance. He shares his energy and music with the intent to interact and cultivate conscious vibes and energy. “I don’t like to perform for people, I like to play with them” he quotes. He brings a spontaneous fire and soulful approach to what he expresses to audiences. J.J. adds down home guitar grooves, alternate percussion, piano/keys, vocal stylings, free-style improve raps, and poetry to the Tom Finch Group. JJ is a music teacher at a private school in northern California, he also has a private practice. He is a graduate of Mills, California Recording Institute and CSUC.
Peter Penhallow has been a musical director for community theater for over 20 years and has well over 100 productions to his credit. While playing keyboards and guitar for the progressive rock band “Timmy” Peter had the pleasure of writing and producing with such luminaries as Eddy Offord of Yes and Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Vince Welnick of the Tubes, and Andy West of the Dixxie Dreggs. Peter is also the band leader for the Liddypudlians. These days Peter is excited and honored to keep up his chops playing with T.F.G. “What a sweet and super talented buch of guys, and they hug before and after every gig.”
Bill O’Callaghan Born and raised in Marin, Ca. Bill has been playing for 25 years emphasizing drums, percussion and vocals. He has played with a wide variety of original artists in many genres including pop, fusion, folk, country and blues. Bill has played in various groups with Tom & Rob for over 20 years. Influenced by Jazz, fusion and rock he has a great natural feel and has earned himself the nick name " ear with legs".
